چکیده

Bounds are given for the error constant of stable finite-difference methods for first-order hyperbolic equations in one space dimension, which use r downwind and s upwind points in the discretization of the space derivatives, and which are of optimal order p = min(r + s,2r + 2,2s). It is known that this order can be obtained by interpolatory methods. Examples show, however, that their error constants can be improved.

SOLVING LINEAR SIXTH-ORDER BOUNDARY VALUE PROBLEMS BY USING HYPERBOLIC UNIFORM SPLINE METHOD

In this paper, a numerical method is developed for solving a linear sixth order boundaryvalue problem (6VBP ) by using the hyperbolic uniform spline of order 3 (lower order). Thereis proved to be first-order convergent. Numerical results confirm the order of convergencepredicted by the analysis.

Universal Approximator Property of the Space of Hyperbolic Tangent Functions

In this paper, first the space of hyperbolic tangent functions is introduced and then the universal approximator property of this space is proved. In fact, by using this space, any nonlinear continuous function can be uniformly approximated with any degree of accuracy. Also, as an application, this space of functions is utilized to design feedback control for a nonlinear dynamical system.

Error Estimates for Finite Element Approximations of Elliptic Control Problems

We investigate finite element approximations of one-dimensional elliptic control problems. For semidiscretizations and full discretizations with piecewise constant controls we derive error estimates in the maximum norm.

Investigation of Fluid-structure Interaction by Explicit Central Finite Difference Methods

Fluid-structure interaction (FSI) occurs when the dynamic water hammer forces; cause vibrations in the pipe wall. FSI in pipe systems due to Poisson and junction coupling has been the center of attention in recent years. It causes fluctuations in pressure heads and vibrations in the pipe wall. The governing equations of this phenomenon include a system of first order hyperbolic partial differen...

On asymptotic accuracy in queueing theory

Recently results have shown that a single server queue Poisson Pareto Burst Process input has a tail which is bounded by hyperbolic functions. We show that the hyperbolic upper and lower bounds for this system can be very misleading, that this hyperbolic tail result is relevant only from a certain threshold onwards, and the magnitude of this threshold may be very large. We also show that any hy...
